WELCOME TO CENTRL STATION |
Welcome to the September Edition of C/O Digest!
This month, you'll find events happening around town and across our DTLA and South Bay spaces, a spotlight featuring Lake Oswego member Eric Redmond of Permeta, a refreshing perspective on mission statements, your complimentary gif, and more.
Whether you're diving into a new venture, connecting with fellow members, or simply carving out time for focus, we hope CENTRL continues to be a space where you feel supported and inspired. |

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT |
Meet Eric Redmond, CEO and Founder of Permeta, a Portland-based startup taking on one of the most stubborn bottlenecks in the American economy. The US permitting process ties up trillions in capital and slows the energy infrastructure projects the country desperately needs. Eric and his team have been members at our Lake Oswego location for the last two years.
Permeta uses patent-pending AI and data to cut the cost, time, and risk out of that process, with network effects that make the platform smarter over time.

For Eric and his team, the work is about more than permits. Rising energy costs drive inflation across the entire economy, and faster permitting is one of the most direct levers for bringing those costs down. It's a big problem, and he's built a team eager to solve it.
What inspired you to get into your line of work?
Energy costs are growing, which causes secondary and tertiary inflation. Streamlining permitting can drive down the cost of everything and create jobs.
What about CENTRL works for you?
It's a home away from home. We don't merely work here, we often hang out and even bring our families.
Is there a book that has inspired your work? Disciplined Entrepreneurship. Obsess a problem someone is willing to pay to solve, with a great team that is eager to solve it. All the rest is window dressing.

WORKING BETTER |

Think mission statements are just corporate wallpaper? Yale professor James Baron disagrees. In this piece from Yale Insights, he argues that a genuine mission statement can be one of the most powerful tools an organization has, but only if it actually means something.
To pressure test this, he asks a simple question: does your mission statement constrain what you do? If it doesn't rule anything out, then yup, it's just a slogan. We think this is a worthwhile read for anyone thinking about what truly drives the work they do.
